After seeing Gizmodo's post way back in November about a wood back panel replacement offering by Material 6, I finally decided to make the jump and splurge a bit on a South American Rosewood panel ($89USD).

It also helped that I had a contact in the US that was visiting to Toronto, so the timing couldn't have been better for me to save the hefty $20 USD international shipping
charge (as opposed to the $6 USD domestic), and who knows how much for customs I would have to pony up.

The packaging was a bit excessive for the small panel, but I liked the minimalist design element to it.
Once opening the box, you're presented with the product, a mini screwdriver head, and a friendly "voluntary assumption of risk" statement liberating 2point5 from responsibility of damages caused by installation at the top of the box. Nice.

Turning my phone off, I quickly got to work.

Here's where it gets a bit hairy; the screwdriver head that is included is very obviously too large for the job of fitting into the screws that keep the back panel in place. Luckily I had a set of precision screwdrivers on hand to get the job done.

I went with a #00 x 20mm Philips-head which worked quite nicely. You can tell the obvious difference in the head size with the provided driver head on the left and the #00 precision head on the right. Once the screws were out, following the directions on the card, the panel came off with ease and the new panel slid on like a glove.

The first thing I noticed was the slight weight change in the phone; being a tad bit lighter. The wood feel is great and it definitely adds a bit of uniqueness to the phone. I appreciate the work that Material 6 has done in researching and manufacturing this product with OEM parts so that lens and flash of the camera isn't compromised.

All in all, quite happy with the final product (minus the screwdriver bit).


The Burger's Priest

One word: Burgasm.

If you're searching for a burger joint in Toronto, this is the place to be.

Heard lots of good things about this place from other peeps, and it definitely does not disappoint.

More of a place to takeout and enjoy elsewhere but if you can find a stool (out of the 5 or so there), I'd say enjoy it while it's hot off the grill.

"The Priest" consists of a double-ground-cheeseburger underneath a cheese-stuffed-panko-breaded-deep-fried-portabello -mushroom (comically named "The Option" which can be ordered by itself for our vegetarian friends). I caution you that you should probably work up an appetite for this delicious monster. The first bite will send the stuffed cheese in "The Option" to flow so it gets a bit dicey in your hands. I honestly have to say that the combination of the meat, the cheese and the mushroom really hit the mark. The only complaint was that I couldn't really appreciate the meat until I took a bite by itself. Because of the double-grind, it's a bit looser and retains a lot more juicy meat flavour.

Fries were average for me (but this is a guy who doesn't eat McDonalds). The cut were strikingly similar to McD's (as I remember them), but a tad oversalted. I'm more of a freshcut fry kinda guy, so the next outing I'll probably just save my calories and cash for the burgers on their own.

could you...Kill it, Cook it, Eat it?



So I've been watching a new show from the BBC called Kill it, Cook it, Eat it. And as horrific as it might sound, it actually is more of an educational show about where your food comes from and how it is prepared.

...now that's not to say that this is a show for the faint at heart. I'll be blunt about this, if the thought of seeing animals being slaughtered and butchered (albeit humanely), makes you a bit queasy, this show might not be one for you. I hesitate and say might because I'd actually like you to challenge yourself and try to sit through an episode so that you might have a better understanding and appreciation of how your meats end up on your plate - which coincidentally is the premise of the show.

The show's participants are normal individuals from London who are placed on a farm and with each passing episode, they are exposed to the animals that they are later challenged to consume. They see each aspect of the animal's production, from the farm, to the slaughter, to the butcher and finally to their plate.

As mentioned, the show is quite educational. After the first "Burger" episode I watched, it definitely opened my eyes about beef quality and other interesting facts about small farms compared to large scale "meat factories". However, one thing that strikes me as a bit awkward is that a couple of the participants are vegan/vegetarian. Umm...hello? Did the director/producers think that decision out? It definitely lends itself to a couple awkward moments of tension between some obvious carnivores in the group, but in my opinion, the show would have been better without them.

Either way, this is definitely worth a look at. On the menu for Season 1:
